We wanted to make a film in the present tense with a theme that was alive today, and so we started to look at what happens to girls in their early teens. It is a time of change when some girls are still children and others have already entered the world of grown-ups.

The screenplay of Truth or Dare has been developed in cooperation with a dramaturgist, a rather unusual procedure in Swedish film.

"Before the shoot the Director of Photography Robert Nordström and I discussed at some length how we were to work with the child actors." says Christina Olofson. The whole film was to be shot in only 35 days of intensive activity. However, they all learnt quickly and were very professional.

Alexandra Dahlström, - who played the tough leader of the gang, Fanny - remembers: "Sometimes I got irritated with the script. At one place I was supposed to say - Go and burn! - to Sabina, That was a bit wet so I said - Go to hell! - instead and that felt more natural."

"TRUTH OR DARE is mostly shot with hand-held camera." Christina Olofson, continues. "The Director of Photography and I made this choice to ensure that the camera was a part of the action, to ensure that it was not something seen from outside. It was also important to catch the energy of city life in the film.

"Young girls are often cruel and inconsiderate. Boys react more directly whereas girls are evasive and devious. In groups of girls secrets are hard currency, they give one an edge over the uninitiated and a hold over those in the know."

"I recognise much in the theme of the film from my own childhood." continues Christina Olofson. "When I grew up I had no close friends and no best friend. I was never one of a group - nor did I ever play Truth or Dare...
